BAQUABAQUA: high performance polyhydroxyalkanoate-based packaging to minimise food waste.

Program: Life+

Duration: June 2016 – June 2019

Partners: Coordinator: A transnational partnership of 6 partners, comprising 1 Spanish university, 3 Spanish companies, 1 Swedish association and 1 Slovenian company. Coordinator: Universidad de las Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

Target: The main objective is revalorising the waste and sub products of Canary Island banana cultivation. Fibres and pulp will be extracted from it, developing additives (to reinforce bioplastics) and fish feed.

Bolsa Baqua

Tecnopackaging’s role will be to incorporate the fibers to biobased and biodegradable film, with the aim of developing a reinforced and more sustainable product, following circular economy methodology.

This film will be used to fabricate packaging for fish feed and protective bags for the banana tree.
